Mon Dec 12th – Using Box plots to compare two or more sets of data

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To develop and understanding of the information in a box plot to help compare two or more sets of data

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to read Median and Interquartile range from a box plot and use these to compare two or more sets of data

STARTER: Try these starter questions

LESSON: Work through this Lesson from Screen 2 onwards.

Then work through Ex 2E in Higher GCSE Text Book (All Level B Questions)

PLENARY: Checking answers as questions are completed from back of book, have a go at a couple of exam questiosn to finish with.

Fri Dec 9th – Median and interquartile Range from Cumulative Frequency Curves

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: How to use the cumulative frequency to find the median and interquartile Range.

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to list the cumulative frequency from a frequency table and use it to estimate the Median, Upper quartile and lower quartile. Using these results you will be able to find the Interquartile range to make comparisons between sets of data.

Thurs Dec 8th – Cumulative Frequency

LEARNING
OBJECTIVE: How to use the cumulative frequency to find the median and interquartile Range.

SUCCESS
CRITERIA: You will be able to list the cumulative frequency from a frequency table and use it to estimate the Median, Upper quartile and lower quartile. Using these results you will be able to find the Interquartile range to make comparisons between sets of data.

STARTER: Look at the data in this frequency table. IF all these people were stood in shoe size order can you work out what shoe size:

  1. The middle person would be wearing
  2. The person stood a quarter of the way along would be wearing
  3. The person stood three quarters of the way along would be wearing
  4. Between what shoe sizes does the middle half of the people wear

Mon Dec 5th – Mean from a Grouped Frequency Table

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: Learn how to find an approximation of the mean from a grouped frequency table

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will understand why the mean from a grouped frequency table is always an approximation and know how to find it

STARTER:

LESSON: Quickly work through Screens 1,2,3,4 to recap a frequency table. Then work thorugh all but last screen to develop ideas for mean from a grouped frequency table;

Fri – Dec 2nd – More work on The mean – Finding the mean from a Frequency Table

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To solve various types of problems using the mean average

SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to find the mean of any set of data presented in a list, a table or a graph

STARTER: Find the Mean from this table of data (Maths Lesson Screen 1)

LESSON: Work through the rest of the MyMaths Lesson Finding the mean from a frequency table.

Have a Go at exercise Section 67 and Section 68 questions on the worksheet.
